An email finder takes a name and a company domain and returns that person's work email address. The five tools below start between 39 and 50 USD a month, but they charge in different units, which is where the real cost gap hides.
TL;DR
Snov.io is the cheapest way in at 39 USD a month and bundles a cold email sender. Hunter.io costs more but charges per search rather than per credit. Apollo.io prices per user, so a three-person team pays three times. Lusha and RocketReach both publish contradictory pricing, which is covered below. No accuracy test has been run yet.

When are you charged a credit for nothing?
Two of the five charge you nothing when a lookup comes back empty and say so plainly. Apollo.io does not address the case for search, Lusha addresses it only for one API, and RocketReach has two live help articles that answer the question in opposite directions.
This is the number that decides real cost, and it is almost never on a pricing page. A tool that charges on every attempt at a 70 percent hit rate is more expensive per usable result than a tool with a lower headline price that charges only on success, and no comparison that stops at plan price will show you that.
The second column matters for a different reason. A plan whose credits expire monthly is a plan you must consume on schedule or lose, which quietly changes a monthly price into a monthly minimum spend.

Which vendors publish two different numbers for the same thing?
Three of the five do, on questions that change what you pay. Lusha prices a phone reveal at 10 credits on its pricing page and 5 credits on two documentation pages. RocketReach publishes opposite answers on whether a failed lookup costs a credit.
These are not caught errors that someone will fix next week. Each pair below was live on the vendor's own site on the date checked, which means a buyer can be quoted either figure by support and neither answer would be wrong on the evidence.
We print both numbers and both sources rather than picking the one that makes a table tidier. Choosing silently would mean asking you to trust our judgement over a document you can open yourself.

What happens to your money and your credits if you cancel?
Four of the five publish no refund window at all. All five renew automatically. Apollo.io requires 30 days written notice of non-renewal and Lusha requires 14, so on both a late cancellation buys you another full term.
Read the notice column before the price column. A subscription that renews automatically and cannot be refunded is effectively prepaid for a term, and the only lever you have is a calendar reminder set before the notice window opens.
RocketReach goes furthest: its subscriber terms state that access cannot be terminated by you before the current term expires, so there is no mid-term exit at all.

One structural point that no pricing page states. RocketReach advertises monthly-equivalent figures derived by dividing the annual price by twelve, and its unlimited lookup tier is annual only with a fair use cap. So the headline number and the price of an actual month to month subscription are not the same number.

Which of these can a European buyer actually use?
Hunter.io hosts on Google Cloud in Belgium by default, and Lusha offers a contractual Europe Service under which it undertakes not to process personal data in a third country. The other three store in the United States with no EU residency option published.
Two different things get called GDPR compliance and they are worth separating. Where the vendor stores data is a transfer question, answered by hosting location, the processing agreement and the transfer mechanism. Whether the vendor's database was lawfully assembled is a source question, answered in the next section. A tool can pass one and fail the other.
Note what the certification column does and does not tell you. Apollo.io is the only one of the five certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which reduces the transfer paperwork that falls on you. The other four rely on standard contractual clauses, which leaves you carrying a transfer impact assessment.

All five publish a working self-serve page where a person can ask to be removed, which is the minimum the law expects and not a differentiator. Lusha goes further than the others operationally by pushing monthly opt-out reports and a webhook to customers, with one catch worth knowing: those reports list only the people who opted out since the previous report, so keeping a complete suppression list is your job, not theirs.

Where does each tool's data actually come from?
Two of the five build part of their database from their own customers' mailboxes. Lusha takes email headers and signature blocks from members of its community and can read connected Google or Microsoft accounts; RocketReach runs an equivalent opt-in programme. The other three describe crawling and licensing instead.
This is the question a European buyer is eventually asked and rarely prepared for. Under Article 15 a person can ask where you got their address, and if your vendor's own answer is only publicly accessible sources, you have nothing better to pass on. CNIL has already ruled that answer insufficient, in the KASPR decision, against a company in exactly this category.
It is also the question that separates the tools on legitimate interest. Crawling a page the person published is an easier argument than extracting a signature block from somebody else's inbox, and a vendor that names specific source categories gives you more to stand on than one that names none.

Are these five tools actually the same kind of product?
No, and comparing their headline prices without saying so would mislead. Only Hunter.io sits close to a pure finder and verifier. Apollo.io and Lusha describe themselves as full platforms, and Lusha states outright that it is more than a simple email finder tool.
A platform price includes a dialer, sequences, a light CRM and enrichment you may already pay for elsewhere. A finder price does not. Ranking them on cost alone rewards whichever vendor bundles least, which is a property of packaging rather than of quality.
Rate limits belong in the same conversation, because they cap what a tool can do inside your workflow regardless of how many credits you bought.
